5 Ways to Keep Your Tires In Good Shape

As vehicle owners, we all know that when it’s time for new tires it can get pretty expensive. Instead of buying new tires all too often, there are many ways you can keep your tires in good shape for longer. Here are four ways to keep your tires in great condition.

1.Maintain Tire Pressure

Checking your tire pressure monthly can keep you assured that your tires are at the right pressure rate. Under or over-inflated tires give your car less grip on the road making it dangerous in bad weather.

Vehicle’s tires are measured in pounds per square inch (psi). Most vehicles will loose at least one psi per month due to everyday use. By checking your tire pressure monthly, this will keep your tires properly filled.

An alternative to filling your tires with compressed air is nitrogen. Nitrogen lasts longer because it takes a greater amount of time for it to leak from rubber tires verses compressed air.

2.Check Tire Tread

Use a ruler to measure the depth of your vehicle’s tire tread. On a new vehicle, the tread should be between 8 and 9mm. From frequent driving, your vehicle’s treads will decrease but should not go below 1.6mm. By checking your tire tread every few months can help keep your tires in good shape.

3.Rotate Your Tires

By rotating your tires, it keeps them wearing evenly and tire treads last a lot longer. It is recommended that you rotate your tires every 5,000 to 8,000 kms.

4.Do Not Accelerate Too Quickly

You can keep your vehicle’s tires lasting longer if you don’t accelerate too quickly. By doing this, tire treads will last longer.
